Duration:6-18 months (280 hours; flexible)
Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Assessment:Logbook; short essays; one-day exam (OSCE)
Harley Academy occupies a distinguished place in the field of aesthetics training because of creating this course, which is the UK’s first government-regulated Level 7 qualification in Aesthetic Medicine; a specification which has now been adopted by other training centres.
Our 500-strong community of Level 7 trainees and graduates offer essential support and advice, both on our online forums and in-person at networking and CPD events that we host at The Academy in central London. Read more about our Level 7 community here.
This postgraduate-level Certificate in Injectables for Aesthetic Medicine allows both current and aspiring practitioners to meet Health Education England’s 2016 Qualification Requirements for Delivery of Cosmetic Procedures. This means that it complies with current regulatory frameworks such as the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners’ Register, as well as future-proofing your training against possible new regulations.
Our blended learning programme combines face-to-face lectures, online learning, and clinical practice. The course has four stages:
Basic practical botulinum toxin also known as Botox and dermal filler training. The day is the introductory workshop to the L7 Injectables qualification.
142 hours of CPD-accredited university-standard material. Study in your own time, at your own pace. Your progress is monitored, so you can pick up where you left off.
Clinical mentoring at Harley Academy allows you to consult and treat genuine patients under the guidance of an experienced mentor. We guarantee that students will observe and practise a minimum of 40 treatments in total, as per HEE guidelines.
Short Answer Questions (written assignments) and a final Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Both elements must be passed in order to meet the Qualification requirements
Exam days take place throughout the year, so you will not be restricted by a standard academic timetable.
If your aim is to set up your own practice, gain employment in a cosmetic clinic, or simply offer aesthetic treatments to your existing patients, the level 7 will give you the tools to do so.
Upon completion you will have a logbook of a minimum of 40 patient cases, with which you can demonstrate your proficiency to prospective employers.
Above all, Level 7 aesthetics training is designed to give you confidence. That is why we go deep on the core, evidence-based procedures that underpin successful aesthetics practice. It is easier and safer to only widen your range of techniques once you have a solid foundation.
Level 7 learners are also eligible to learn how to use cannulae and other new procedures on our Masterclasses. These are especially well-suited to practitioners who want to start their own cosmetic clinic.
What Will I Learn?
This course will give you a postgraduate level understanding of the following topics:
Ethics and law in aesthetic medicine
Good medical practice is essential for a long-term career in aesthetics. Have an understanding of how to protect yourself and your patients legally and ethically.
Recognising healthy and unhealthy psychological drivers is crucial for good practice in aesthetic medicine. Understand the signs of body dysmorphia, and how to deal with patients who may need to be refused treatment.
The skin is the foundation for all cosmetic procedures, and you will learn the structure and function of both the skin and hair and how they age over time. You will also learn to recognise skin conditions that contraindicate treatment, as well as referral pathways for patients suffering from skin-related concerns. If you’re interested in learning to manage skin conditions, clinical skin rejuvenation treatments are taught on our Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine Specialty Training programmes.
In addition to the observing a minimum of ten botulinum toxin treatments and performing ten yourself under close expert supervision, you’ll also learn the science of botulinum toxins, including: mechanisms of action, how to consult for toxins, a range of injection techniques and how to manage complications and side-effects.
In addition to the observing a minimum of ten dermal fillers treatments and performing ten yourself under close expert supervision, you’ll also learn the science of botulinum toxins, including: mechanisms of action, how to consult for toxins, a range of injection techniques and how to manage complications and side-effects.
