How our Level 7 Qualification works

Harley Academy trained Level 7 Certificate graduates are immediately recognisable and are highly sought-after for jobs in major clinic chains and busy independent clinics. But don’t take our word for it: see our testimonials!

Foundation Day

Guided by our expert trainers and educators, the Foundation Day is the perfect start to your career in aesthetic medicine, grounding you in best practices that you will keep throughout your life as an aesthetics specialist.

The day covers the basics of injectable treatments for facial aesthetic rejuvenation.

Your Harley Academy Foundation Day Certificate enables you to gain insurance to practice and continue training. You will also receive a FREE starter pack containing all the consumables you need to treat your first patients, and our ‘Good Practice Guide’, which answers all your tricky questions regarding prescribing, insurance and data protection.

Induction

The Induction Webinar is a 2-hour introduction to your course. The Student Support Team at Harley Academy run these interactive sessions every 6 weeks, allowing recently enrolled students to learn about the journey they will undertake for the Level 7, finishing with a live question and answer session to ensure complete understanding.

The Induction Webinar explains how to effectively tackle every aspect of your course, covering the Foundation Day, Observation Days, Mentoring Sessions and Assessment.

You’ll receive tips on how to complete your Level 7 efficiently and effectively, and how to get the most out of your learning experience. The webinar will also be attended by a Harley Academy trainer, who’ll provide key insights into how to interact and network with our community, to help you make the most of your level 7.

Observation Days

Two full observation days for injectables are included in our Level 7 Qualification. You will shadow our expert practitioners in an aesthetics clinic. Intensive teaching within small groups will allow time and space for personalised questions. Observing treatments is a crucial part of the training requirements outlined in the 2016 HEE Guidelines.

During the Observation Days, you will watch a variety of injection techniques first hand, receiving live instruction, and having all of your questions answered.

The Observation Days cover the full patient lifecycle from consultation to aftercare. You will observe complete treatments including consultation, treatment planning, injecting, aftercare, and post-treatment advice. Build your awareness of each stage so that you can confidently move on to injecting yourself during your supervised Mentoring Sessions.

Mentoring Days

Mentoring is a central part of the 2016 government training recommendations for delivery of cosmetic procedures.

The Harley Academy Level 7 Certificate and the associated mentoring scheme is designed to ensure that you meet these guidelines. Attend your 1:1 sessions as many times as required in order to fullfil your logbook requirements.

The Mentoring Sessions offer a bespoke 1:1 learning experience, enabling you to rapidly improve your fine motor abilities and client consultation skills. You will see a minimum of 4 patients over each session.

Our 1:1 Mentoring is the best way for you to gain hands-on practical experience in aesthetic injectables in the Market, over these sessions you will:

• Rapidly improve technique with tips and feedback from your mentor, focused on you and your particular strengths and learning needs.

• Learn an array of injection techniques by practising them first hand.

• Practise mixing the correct dosage for a range of indications of varying intensity.

• Understand that every patient is different. Through learning in the environment of a working clinic, you’ll see patients from every walk of life, of all ages, genders and ethnicities. This will vastly improve your adaptability in your future practice.

• Grow your confidence by working with a wide selection of mentors. Each of our clinical mentors has a slightly different approach to aesthetics, inspiring you in different ways and helping you develop the conviction that aesthetics is for you. Perform the full treatment including consultation, treatment planning, injecting, aftercare, and post-treatment advice.

Assessment Written and Practical

Short Answer Questions (written assignments) and a final Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Both elements must be passed in order to meet the Qualification requirements.

Exam days take place throughout the year, so you will not be restricted by a standard academic timetable.

Level 7 Qualification

If your aim is to set up your own practice, gain employment in a cosmetic clinic, or simply offer aesthetic treatments to your existing patients, the Level 7 will give you the tools to do so.

Upon completion you will have a logbook of a minimum of 40 patient cases, with which you can demonstrate your proficiency to prospective employers.

Above all, Level 7 aesthetics training is designed to give you confidence. That is why we go deep on the core, evidence-based procedures that underpin successful aesthetics practice. It is easier and safer to only widen your range of techniques once you have a solid foundation.

Level 7 learners are also eligible to learn how to use cannulae and other new procedures on our Masterclasses. These are especially well-suited to practitioners who want to start their own cosmetic clinic.

eLearning

As part of your Level 7 Certificate, you will have 142 hours of CPD-accredited university-standard material. Study in your own time, at your own pace. Your progress is monitored, so you can always pick up where you left off.

Benefits of the Fast Track Level 7 Qualification

Build Trust. Have your extensive experience (min. 3 years or 100 patients) officially recognised with a government-regulated qualification. This certification builds trust with your patients and allows you onto the Joint Council’s national Register of approved practitioners.

Flexible and Fast. The Fast Track allows you to achieve the full Level 7 in a fraction of the time. The usual course takes up to 3 years, whereas Fast Track students can complete assessment in as little as one Exam Term (6 months).

Future-proof. The Level 7 in Injectables for Aesthetic Medicine resulted from 2015 Health Education England Training Requirements. This is now the new lowest standard of training required by the Joint Council (JCCP) for delivery of botulinum toxins and dermal fillers.

    Fast Track Course Structure

You can achieve the Level 7 Qualification as soon as you submit your logbook and complete two forms of assessment.

    Logbook:

Samples of treatment cases delivered over the past three years or more. Samples must demonstrate evidence of patient consultation including pre-treatment and post-treatment care plans (in the form of clinical notes, taken from consultations).

A written reference from an experienced practitioner to confirm that you have over three years experience, or have treated over 100 patients. The nominated experienced practitioner who provides the reference must also meet these requirements.

    Assessment:

Coursework: 34 Short Answer Questions (written assignments of 100-600 words each).

Observed Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE): A one-day final examination that allows you to demonstrate your practical knowledge and skills.

What you learn on the Level 7 Certificate Fast Track

The Fast Track programme allows you to demonstrate what you already know from your Aesthetics practice, and gain formal recognition for it.

Included in the programme is access to our comprehensive digital learning suite of videos, quizzes and interactive materials, where you can top-up your knowledge. This online learning covers:

Ethics and law in Aesthetic Medicine. Good medical practice is essential for a long-term career in Aesthetics. Gain an understanding of how to protect yourself and your patients legally and ethically.

Cosmetic Psychology. Recognising healthy and unhealthy psychological drives is crucial for good practice in Aesthetic Medicine. Understand the signs of body dysmorphia and how to deal with patients who may need to be refused treatment.

Skin Science. The skin is the foundation for all cosmetic procedures. In this eLearning module, you will learn the structure and function of both the skin and hair, as well as how they age over time. You will also learn to recognise skin conditions that contraindicate treatment, as well as referral pathways for patients suffering from skin-related concerns.

If you’re interested in learning to manage skin conditions, clinical skin rejuvenation treatments are taught our Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Medicine Specialty Training programmes.

Botulinum toxins & Dermal fillers. In addition to observing at least ten botulinum toxin treatments and performing ten yourself under close expert supervision, with this eLearning, you will deepen your understanding of the science of botulinum toxins and fillers. The module covers mechanisms of action, how to consult for a wide range of indications, an array of optimal injection techniques, and how to manage complications and side-effects.

For more details consult the Level 7 specification that we co-authored with Industry Qualifications.

    Applications
