Effective Under Eye Treatment Options

Advanced Tear Trough Masterclass

When it comes to under eye treatment options, many patients now ask for tear trough filler. But, as we know, deciding on the appropriate treatment depends on their concerns.

Tear trough filler is designed to address physical hollowing in the under eye area, so what happens when a patient has another issue? What about eye bags or puffiness? Dark circles..?

In order to fully explore effective under eye treatment options we interviewed Dr Jess Srivastava. Dr Jess is an aesthetics specialist, clinic owner, senior clinical trainer at Harley Academy and a Fast Track Level 7 Diploma graduate.

Exploring under eye treatments and concerns

Advanced Tear Trough Masterclass

What are the most common under eye presentations people seek your help for?

“Loss of volume in the form of hollowing, dark circles, puffiness and eye bags.”

Which treatments do you find to be most effective in each instance?

Dr Jess recommends the following…

Volume loss: “I’d say there are lots of other aspects to consider and it’s very patient-dependent, but one option is tear trough filler. For this to be effective, the candidate should have no puffiness, no eye bags and no skin laxity Also, no previous filler is my prerequisite. Lots of people I see with this complaint may have had treatment elsewhere and I find their filler is in the wrong place.”

Skin Quality: “Skinboosters and mesotherapy may be used to address skin quality in this region. Microneedling is a great option for its collagen induction benefits as well.”

Dark circles: “A tailored skincare approach including chemical peels can work well.”

Under eye puffiness and eye bags: “Some skincare can be useful here but, in my opinion, I’d definitely advise no injectables. Surgery could potentially be considered depending on the extent of the eye bags.”

What’s your advice for managing patients expectations when it comes to under eye results?

“Be honest,” advises Dr Jess. “I disappoint a lot of people as I refuse injectables around the eye more than anywhere else on the face. But, in some people, you know the results will be sub-optimal and potentially create more problems than the patient had to start with. Your patients will always appreciate the honesty in the long run, even if it’s not what they want to hear at the time of the consultation.”

Providing a fully-rounded aesthetics service to patients

Patient Consultation Injectables Under Eye Treatments

As safety conscious, patient-centric educators, we advise practitioners to take a “skin first” approach to aesthetics. This means ensuring the canvas is the best it can be, before you start adding anything to it.

We highly recommend all injectors take at least a Cosmetic Dermatology Foundation Training course. This will arm you with a deeper knowledge of topical skincare and skin treatments’ applications. It will also prepare you to offer a more holistic, “skintelligent” approach to facial aesthetics. This added knowledge can further distinguish you from your competitors. To further explore the breadth of medium depth peels, skin boosters and microneedling, the full Cosmetic Dermatology course is a worthwhile career investment.

Instead of having to turn away injectable clients because their under eye concerns do not warrant injectable treatments, you have an alternative. You can discuss facial ageing, skin ageing and the potential solutions for under eye treatment, with authority. Furthermore, you can offer them a range of treatments – or combined treatments – for significant results.

Skincare sales and courses of skin treatments are a great way to bring in regular income. Additionally, offering this expanded service – and doing it well – helps you to develop an on-going, trusting relationship with your patients. This is how you create customer loyalty and great word-of-mouth referrals – not to mention bringing in those golden online reviews! All of which is invaluable to building a successful aesthetics practice.
