Nat Haswell Appointed To Allergan Institute Faculty

Many of our students past and present will know Natalie Haswell, one of our senior clinical trainers. Nat is a much-loved member of the team at our London academy, who joined after taking her Level 7 with us in 2016.

We are thrilled to announce that Nat Haswell has been appointed to the Allergan Medical Institute faculty and board.

The Allergan Medical Institute is a prestigious international body which pursues clinical excellence in aesthetics through expert-led learning. Allergan is a leader in the aesthetic medicine space and is best known as the parent company of AbbVie, makers of Botox.

We spoke to Nat about her four-year journey from joining Harley Academy as a clinical trainer, to being appointed to the Allergan Medical Institute faculty and board. Here is her inspiring story...

What made you switch to aesthetics?

I wasn’t sure to start with but always had an interest in aesthetics. I had never had any treatments but had reached Matron level, worked 19 years in the NHS and wanted to advance my skills and scope of Nursing practice.

I felt I couldn’t do this in the NHS, so I booked a foundation training day with Harley Academy and was blown away!

The passion of the trainers and the need to ensure ethical, safe practice was so inspiring and an industry I instantly wanted to be a part of.

Being able to deliver safe aesthetic treatments privately with no time or budget constraints but my own, was also very appealing. Not forgetting being able to make people feel better about themselves, which is not always possible in general nursing practice.

When did you know it was the right time to move to aesthetics, full-time?

After a year. I was struggling to manage NHS work, family and my own aesthetics business and my aesthetics kept getting busier and busier, something had to give and I had to take the jump!

Describe your approach to aesthetics…

Safe, honest, legal, ethical. Skin and medical health first, then injectables.

How did you hone your skills to this high level?

I completed my Level 7 with Harley Academy which was an amazing foundation for safe, accredited practice. Following this, I completed accredited training in masterclasses for every area of the face.

What do you recommend about teaching aesthetics?

Make sure you are taught by someone with accredited and official teaching qualifications for insurance purposes. As a teacher I recommend being honest, safe, ethical and always ensuring evidence-based practice.

What are you looking forward to doing in your role on the Allergan faculty and board?

Being part of another fantastic team of aesthetic experts where we can work together to promote clinical excellence, patient safety, professional training and great aesthetic outcomes.

How do you juggle being a clinic owner, expert practitioner, mentor and having a personal and family life?

I won’t lie…. with difficulty! It’s hard! I’m now a single mum and it’s been a huge challenge but it’s worth it. Just keep going!
