GMC REVALIDATION & APPRAISALS
Many doctors practising aesthetic medicine struggle to find an appropriate body for GMC revalidation. Doctors who work in the NHS, as an agency locum or in large independent organisations, are automatically connected to these employing organisations for their GMC revalidation
Generally, such organisations employ a Responsible Officer (eg. the Medical Director) who oversees the process. But if you work independently, you may not be able to find a Designated Body and Responsible Officer to undertake the process for you

Why GMC revalidation matters
The purpose of GMC revalidation is to provide greater assurance to patients and the public, employers and other healthcare professionals that licensed doctors are up-to-date and fit to practise. Doctors' revalidation is a key component of a range of measures designed to improve the quality of care for patients
Any doctors who wish to practice in the UK must be registered with the GMC (General Medical Council). All registered doctors who are practising medicine have yearly appraisals and revalidate every 5 years to stay on the GMC Register
It can be hard to find a designated body for aesthetic medicine
Because practising aesthetic medicine exists in the private sector, there are limited options for GMC revalidation and appraisal services
This is why Harley Academy provides a GMC revalidation service for cosmetic doctors, where the unique area of the practice of aesthetic medicine can be considered from a place of experience and empathy
